I have been a Freelance Ecologist for the past 7 years and have worked with many consultancies over the years. My experience I have gained is as follows:

760 hours of bat work experience including both emergence and activity surveys also gained 112 hours of dormouse experience and survey work, together with having 295 hours of Reptile & Amphibian experience and survey work.

It has been a passion of mine together with being my chosen career to develop it further , whether freelance or employed.

I have just over 12 years of experience in conservation first in land management and as a warden on a nature reserve before expanding into education and survey work. I have a first class degree in environmental science and geography finishing top of my class, a Level 2 Certificate and Diploma in Work-based Environmental Conservation and a graduate member of CIEEM. I have been involved in several projects including a couple of crayfish reintroductions, a signal crayfish control project, a crassula control project, baseline surveys for a beaver reintroduction project, putting in leaky woody debris dams for a slow the flow project, various atlases and bioblitzes, radio tracking polecats and bats, reintroducing and monitoring dormice and mapping and monitoring populations of water vole and otters.

I am seeking more opportunities as a seasonal ecologist for the upcoming season. I have an MSc in Environmental Conservation and 3 years of experience working as a seasonal ecologist, I have a dormouse license and a CSCS card for professionals. 

My professional experience includes 20 years of project coordination and program management.

I enjoy being busy, and since 2012 I have worked with two private Ecological Consultancies on a freelance basis, carrying out roost visits and Emergence and Re-entry bat surveys. I have a bat licence to disturb and handle bats.


It was whilst studying for the MSc that I started work as a Countryside Ranger for DWR Cymru Welsh Water.

I carry out freelance invertebrate and bird surveying and have worked for Natural Resources Wales, The Elan Valley Trust, Elan Links, The Brecknock Wildlife Trust and private conservationists.

I am used to speaking to groups of people and have given a variety of presentations to interested groups about bees and wasps, and a rewarding part of my conservation work is to teach about aculeates.

 I have led workshops for the public about bees, both bumblebees and solitary species. Usually, I will combine a morning presentation with an afternoon out in the field. In a freelance capacity, it has been my pleasure to have led Identification Workshops for the Elan Valley Trust, Radnorshire Wildlife Trust, and the Biodiversity Information Service; the Local Records Centre for Breconshire, Radnorshire and Montgomeryshire.
