Outline

I am a genuinely friendly down to earth person with a wealth of hands on experience in many areas of UK wildlife habitat management and species surveying.

My skills are many and varied, I am an all weather outdoorsman and I believe my knowledge and expertise within the ornithological identification discipline to be very good indeed.


I have an infectious optimism and a professional attitude in all areas of my life, working equally well alone or as part of a team. I pride myself on my ability to prioritise and achieve time related targets whilst employing initiative with a common sense approach. GCE 'O' Levels in Biology (Grade C)and English (Grade E), CSE (Grade 1) in Biology and Religious Education, CSE (Grade 2) in English, CSE (Grade 3) in History, Geography, and Maths, CSE (Grade 4) Chemistry and Art. All obtained at Whitby School 1985

Experience

My experience ranges from; extensive man management and office based/tutoring roles within HM Prison system, to advisory ecological/conservation roles incl. pest management, to hands on practical work on allotments/small holdings, country estates, and working farm environments including livestock management/ handling and industrial ‘deep’ cleaning. I also have experience with farm and horticultural machinery inc. tractor, quad, and ATV driving, chainsaws, brushcutters and all other associated hand tools. My UK driving licence has both D1 Minibus and C1E trailer entitlements. I have been involved in ecological surveying and field work over many years including eDNA collection, many bird surveys and nest box projects, riparian and aquatic surveys incl. protected species such as GCN and schedule 1 birds, presence/absence surveys for raptors and pest species identification mainly fox, mice and rats. Small mammal capture and release using Longworth traps.
I have an excellent understanding of risk mitigation /assessments, COSHH / HSE / EU & UK wildlife and countryside legislation. I also have good IT skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and am an effective communicator, both written and oral, at all levels.
