MY SERVICES

I work with communities to: design and deliver environmental projects; develop funding bids; write business plans; facilitate partnership working; and share best practice.  

I assist local authorities, government and enforcement agencies by: designing environmental strategy and policy; providing interim management of environmental specialists; and co-ordinating training for officers.  

I help businesses and site managers to: assess and reduce the environmental impacts of their schemes and activities; identify opportunities for investing in the natural and historic environment; and manage their environmental assets.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

I bring a wealth of skills and experience to projects in a wide range of areas:

Team manager of multi-disciplinary environmental teams(30+ staff from archaeology, biodiversity, climate change and sustainability, conservation and design, landscape, land regeneration and trees).

Project managerfor large-scale and complex projects, for example, 4 year Life ECOnetProject funded by the European Commission involving 17 partners from the UK, Netherlands and Italy, a team of 5 staff and various consultants. Value £3.16 million.

Strong business and strategic approach, for example, developing new vision, business plan and work programme for the Sandstone Ridge Trust (2015-18).

Strategy/policy development: author of Hertfordshire Countryside Heritage Project (1987), Nature Conservation Strategy for Cheshire (1991), Ecological network for Cheshire (1995 – 2009), Heritage Crime Delivery Plan for Cheshire West and Chester Council (2011-14).

Change management: led on the merger of specialist environmental functions for local government re-organisation in Cheshire (2009).  Reviewed governance and administrative arrangements for Cheshire Local Nature Partnership (2018).

Budget management and fundraising: Budget Manager for revenue budgets with a value in excess of £3 million, and capital budgets up to £17 million.  Successful track record in income generation from selling expertise, charging for services, and grant applications (for example, led bid team awarded £1.55 million by the European Commission in 1999 for the LifeECOnet Project).

Landscape-scale conservation: pioneer of ecological networks to address issues of habitat fragmentation and species isolation (Ecological network for Cheshire, 1995-2009).

Partnership workingwith stakeholders across diverse sectorsincluding business, development, planning, agriculture, forestry, water, transport, recreation, tourism, health and education.

Communication:author of wide range of reports, papers and articles, and presenter to local, national and international fora.

Review: Cheshire and Warrington Local Nature Partnership (April — Sept 2018).Carrying out a review of the organisational and governance arrangements of the LNP, with Neil Cumberlidge of Neil Cumberlidge Associates

Project delivery: The Sandstone Ridge Trust (Jan 2017 — Feb 2019).Delivering a HLF funded Transition Project to promote and sustain the special qualities of the Sandstone Ridge and secure long-term financial and community investment.

Ecological advice: All Saints' Church, Daresbury (Feb 2017).Providing advice to the Parochial Church Council on the management of its churchyard grassland for wildlife.

Chief Executive consultancy services: The Sandstone Ridge Trust (2015-16).Working with the Board of Trustees to develop the Trust's strategic direction.

Interim Team Management: Oxford City Council (2014-16).Leading the Design, Heritage and Trees Team to ensure delivery of regulatory functions.

Lecturing on criminality in the historic environment; University of Chester (2014-17).Delivery of case study on prevention and investigation of heritage crime for 1st and 3rd year students enrolled on Criminology undergraduate degree course.

Enforcement training: Trevor Roberts Associates (2014).Delivery of training for planning enforcement officers on how to deal effectively with heritage crime.
