Experience

Community Engagement Assistant at Scottish Wildlife Trust (November 2019- Present)

  • I organise, prepare and lead weekly volunteer groups. This includes doing a reserve site visit to identify work that needs to be done and preparing a risk assessment.
  • As part of the Scottish Wildlife Trusts Connecting Communities to Nature project, I have attended meetings with different non-governmental organisations and charitable groups including, Todhill Residential Care Centre, Children's First and The Conservation Volunteers. 
  • I have been involved with the planning and implementation of public events, including several guided walks around different reserves. This involved research into the reserves history, identification of the different species found on the reserve and the best places to see them and checking if there is any work needing to be done prior to the walk. 
  • I have also been monitoring the badger setts on the reserves managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust in Ayrshire, using camera trap technology to identify activity. The survey information is then sent to Scottish Badgers. 

RSPB Education and Survey Volunteer (July 2019- Present)

  • I assist the RSPB Lochwinnoch's Learning Officer lead Curriculum for Excellence based outdoor learning sessions, helping children to discover and learn about nature first-hand on the reserve.
  • I help a team of volunteers with the Hen Harrier roost counts, recording all bird species on site in particular other raptors that could affect Harrier populations.

RSPB Assistant Warden (June 2019)

  • I assisted the Warden at the RSPB Mersehead with reserve maintenance including cutting back invasive species and general path maintenance.
  • I conducted bird surveys including, mapping Curlew alarm calls and rope dragging for Snipe and carried out butterfly and bee transect surveys.
  • I identified and recorded moth species found in overnight moth traps.
